Position Title:
CTF Volunteer – Platform Deployment, Question Development, and Event Planning

Project Overview:

Join us in executing AUTMHQ’s Capture The Flag (CTF) cybersecurity challenge for our Rethink 2025 November event. This initiative is designed to promote cybersecurity skills across beginner to professional levels while showcasing innovation, teamwork, and ethical hacking. Volunteers will assist in implementing the CTFd platform, crafting challenge questions, and supporting event operations.
Responsibilities

1. CTFd Platform Installation & Configuration

1. Assist in installing and configuring the CTFd open-source platform.
2. Support domain and hosting setup, SSL certificate installation, and database configuration.
3. Collaborate with technical leads to customize branding, team-based features, and user dashboards.

2. Challenge Development & Question Creation

1. Help create and organize challenge categories (e.g., Cryptography, Web, Forensics, Binary Exploitation, Reverse Engineering, etc.).
2. Contribute to question writing, flag creation, and hint generation based on difficulty levels: Beginner, Intermediate, Professional.
3. Test challenge questions for accuracy and validate flags.
4. Tag questions with skills, tools, and learning outcomes for participant tracking.

3. Event Planning & Coordination

1. Attend virtual planning sessions to brainstorm the event timeline and participant flow.
2. Assist in setting up team registration, scoreboard monitoring, and logistics support.
3. Help organize pre-event workshops, walkthroughs, or virtual mentor hours.
4. Support outreach to volunteers, judges, and industry mentors.

4. Security & Compliance

1. Ensure the platform and challenges follow ethical standards and do not promote illegal activities.
2. Adhere to AUTMHQ’s cybersecurity and data privacy policies.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Interest or experience in cybersecurity, ethical hacking, or IT event planning.
2. Familiarity with Linux command line, Python, or basic web hosting is a plus.
3. Strong communication, collaboration, and time management skills.
4 Ability to commit 5–10 hours/month leading up to the event (July–November).
